MICHELLE S. MARCUS, president of the firm, began her exclusive practice in Social Security law and disability claims in 1991, when she joined Irwin Portnoy in his practice. Ms. Marcus graduated from the Albany Law School of Union University, where she was a law review editor. She started her career on Wall Street, with the firm of Mudge Rose Guthrie Alexander & Ferdon. In 1998, she was elected president of the Rockland County Women's Bar Association. She was a member of the board of directors for Legal Services of the Hudson Valley and for the Legal Aid Society of Rockland County for over 6 years. Ms. Marcus is admitted to practice law in the New York state courts, before the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and before the United States Supreme Court. Recently, Ms. Marcus presented a continuing legal education seminar on Social Security Disability law for attorneys attending the annual conference of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York.

IRWIN M. PORTNOY has served in the field of administrative law for over 30 years and was appointed as a Social Security Administration Administrative Law Judge in 1980. From 1980 to 1989, he heard disability and other cases for the Social Security Administration's Office of Hearings and Appeals. In 1989, Judge Portnoy retired as an ALJ and started a private practice in the area of Social Security law and disability claims. Mr. Portnoy is a graduate of the New York University Law School and also has Masters of Law in Labor Law. He was a supervising trial attorney and specialist with the National Labor Relations Board from 1961 to 1980. He is admitted to practice law in the New York state courts and before the United States district courts for all districts of New York, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
