The Law Office of Jim Black & Associates focuses its practice in the areas of workers’ compensation, social security disability and personal injury. In each area of practice, we are dedicated to preserving the rights of all those we serve. We understand that each case consists of individual people with unique needs and experiences. Through our hard work, knowledge and experience, we strive to meet the needs of each individual.

Attorney Jim Black has over twenty-two years of experience as an attorney, with 20 plus years in the role of an advocate for injured individuals. For the past 15 years he has focused primarily in the area of workers’ compensation. During this 15 year period he has personally represented more workers’ compensation clients than any other attorney in Northwestern Illinois. His compassion for meeting the needs of each individual client, his knowledge of the law and his experience as an advocate for the rights of the injured individual resulted in positive outcomes for his clients. Jim Black’s aggressive advocacy of his client’s rights will lead him to pursue a matter to the highest level. Attorney Jim Black firmly believes that each case belongs to the injured individual and his role is to advocate for that individual and educate him/her regarding his/her rights under the law, therefore empowering the individual to be in control of his/her claim.

Although, clients with workers’ compensation claims make up the largest percentage of our caseload, clients with personal injuries as well as those seeking Social Security Disability are growing in numbers. Attorney Bios

Jim Black, Attorney/Owner

I am a Rockford native. I attended Rock Valley College and then transferred to the University of Illinois. I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. I worked as a social worker in the Rockford community from 1975 to 1982. I attended St. Louis University School of law in St. Louis, MO graduating in the top of my class in 1985. I was sworn into the Bar in November of 1985 and began practicing law in the St. Louis area. I returned to the Rockford area in 1987.

I worked for a variety of firms before focusing on a workers’ compensation practice in 1991. I have focused my practice in workers’ compensation, social security disability and personal injury law since 1991. I opened my own practice in August of 2000. I am a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Wisconsin, and the National Organization for Social Security Claimanants’ Representatives. Additionally, I am licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois as well as the state of Wisconsin.

Since 1991 I have served thousands of injured workers throughout Northern Illinois. I have provided legal services to more workers’ compensation clients than any other attorney in Northwestern Illinois. I am dedicated and compassionate in my representation of the injured worker. I work tirelessly to see that each of the people I represent receives the benefits he or she deserves.


Brad Reynolds

I was born and raised in Iowa. I attended the University of Iowa, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994. I graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1997, graduating with High Distinction.

I worked as a Law Clerk for the Seventh Judicial District of Iowa for one year. I then began working for Brook & O’Brien, a civil litigation firm with emphasis on civil rights and employment issues located in Davenport, Iowa. I was an associate at that law firm from 1998 – 2002. I became an associate at the Law Office of Jim Black & Associates in December of 2002. I have settled over 1,000 workers’ compensation claims since I began working for the Law Office of Jim Black & Associates. I am a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, and the Iowa State Bar Association. I am licensed to practice in the state of Illinois as well as the state of Iowa.


Mark Silverman

I am a native of Naperville, Illinois. I attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, receiving my Bachelor of Arts degree in 2002. I received my law degree from the University of Illinois, College of Law in Champaign in 2005.

I joined the Law Office of Jim Black & Associates in January 2006. As an associate my caseload is primarily focused on Illinois Workers’ Compensation Claims, although I currently have a few cases before the Illinois Circuit Courts as well as the Court of Appeals. I aggressively fight for my clients. I shepherded a matter all the way to the Illinois Supreme Court, committed to getting my client the insurance benefits we know he deserves. I am a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. I am licensed to practice in the state of Illinois.


Tracy Jones

I was born and raised in Rochelle, Illinois. I attended Northern Illinois University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2003. I received my Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in Chicago in May of 2006 where I was a member of the Phi Alpha Delta International Law Fraternity and the Women’s Law Caucus. While pursuing my law degree I worked as a judicial clerk for Chief Judge Donald C. Hudson as well as 15 other Circuit and Associate Judges in the 16th Judicial Circuit. Additionally, I authored an article Developing and Implementing Specialty Courts which was published in the Illinois Supreme Court Reports, 2005.

I began working for the Law Office of Jim Black & Associates in May of 2006. My role at the Law Office of Jim Black & Associates is to aggressively represent the rights of individuals injured while working, ensuring that all the clients I help get the benefits they deserve. I am a member of the Winnebago County Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. I am licensed to practice in Illinois.
