Applying for Disability

While most accident victims recover from the injuries, sometimes, the accident leaves the victim with a functional limitation. The victim is unable to perform the usual mental or physical functions which a normal person can perform such as walking or communicating with others. While some people are able to adapt themselves and continue to contribute to the productivity and remain attached to the work force. However the physical or mental condition of many others prevent them from work.

Each day, the Social Security Administration is flooded with applications for social security benefits from disabled workers across the nation. There are rules that attempt to treat people with the same condition identically but the fact is each individual responds differently to different conditions.

A disabled worker can claim Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income. While these two programs are different, the test for disability is the same. In fact both of them define disability in the same manner.

If you want to claim a disability benefit, you should call the Social Security Administration and request an appointment at a local office. Meet the local officer who will assist you with your application. The officer will check to see if you are eligible for the benefits under the Social Security Disability Insurance program. If you do not qualify for benefits under the Social Security Disability Insurance program, you can apply for Supplemental Security Income.
